Staples out…cleared for take off!!
Gunner had a BIG day at the Vet!
His staples were removed. He didn’t care too much for the staple puller. Several were really in there. Oh what a relief it was once they were out! His incision layed out nice and flat. They were very pleased with the healing.
So he got an A-OK! No more restriction! Cleared for take off and free to resume his normal activities!! Now he can move about at his own pace and get accustomed to his new style. You can imagine what he thinks of that idea! Woo Hoo!
Our ride home from the Vet was so much different from the last few we’ve done!
Time for him to venture back in to the yard and see what he can get in to! Business as usual! As I opened the door for him to head outside, he looked at me to be sure he was allowed to go! Alone, even! Free at last!
So, Gunner is out marking his spots in the yard and checking to see if everything is as he left it. He’s getting around very well, considering. It’s been two weeks since he’s been out on that side of the house. He’s amazed not to have a leash holding him back. Lucky he’s fenced in and can roam freely. Time for me to get a big ol’ cup of coffee and relax a bit! Wow, what a ride it’s been!
Happy, happy day at our house!

What a different attitude tonight! Gunner is almost strutting around the house, so proud of himself! Romping here and there. He sure isn’t taking it easy anymore. It’s almost like he knows, he’s graduated from Cornell! haha, my funny boy!
Good to see him in such high spirits!
Let’s see how tough he is at bedtime when he realizes his “Spiderman” collar is gone! I picked up a Spiderman pillowcase for him instead but I’m hiding it till bedtime! Tonight he gets a real pillow for a change! That and a great big graduation bone will keep him busy tonight!
We both feel a whole lot better tonight! I’ll rest easier, too.

Ahhhhhhhhhh! I’ll say!
Great news Gunner!! Today I am taking out Trouper Second Chance’s out. The vet is so far away, I am a Nurse Practitioner so they said if I didn’t mind, I could do it. I do it on people all the time.
I am waiting for hubby Gary to come home and give me a helping hand/paw.
I am going to give Trouper an Ultram to pre-medicate him half an hour before I take them out. Plus, in case it is uncomfortable, he will blame Gary and not me!! He would never think I could cause him any discomfort….will post tonight on Troupers Second Chance blog to let you know how it goes.
Gunner sez ” AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”! So much better with the staples out!!
Good luck Trouper! A few were tight but most came right out, no problem! It’s worth it!
Your remarks just gave me hope. I just got Lucy home yesterday from a rear leg amputation on Tuesday. She is not a happy camper and will barely look at me. She whined and I cried all night. I heard the first few days are the hardest.
awww, hang in there, it gets better! You and Lucy will be ok, it takes time to get use to the whole thing and it aint easy!! We whined and we cried and then we decided that we had no choice but to get through it, together. each day got a little easier. Gunner did better than I did. He gave me strength, just watching him. He is still way a head of me, my heart hurts! Its been really hard at times but he sure has handled it well. My thoughts are with you, believe me, I remember when we “just got home”. Get some rest and you’ll both be ok little by little!
oh happy day!!! so glad gunner is again surveying his kingdom and being the ‘man of the yard’. good news like this makes all the rough days easier to take.
charon & gayle
Oh MAN Gunner has got to feel so GOOD! He is one handsome dog, by the way.
he is 3 times excited to be free again! He has a new spunk to his step but it isn’t SLOW or EASY!
Hip, Hop, Hooray! Congratulations on this momentous milestone. Let the squirrel hunting begin! 🙂
Just make sure Gunner doesn’t overdo it, and focus on building up his strength.
I will be lurking behind the bushes, well not the bushes cuz Gunner never misses a bush……………but I’ll be watching! Not that he heeds the “take it easy” command. We’ll try to take it easy.
Go out and be a DOG, Gunner!!!!
Glad he is doing so good!
thats exactly what he’s going to do!
Way to go Gunner! You are an honorary member of Oaktown Pack, except all the other members have at least two names. Codie Rae, Wyatt Ray Dawg, Travis Ray. Gunner Ray? Good to hear how well you are doing. Reminds me of Wyatt at three weeks post amputation: http://tripawdsrock.shutterfly.com/wyattraydawg/22
